Press Release
The Buffalo-Niagara regional board of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), located in Buffalo, announced its participation in NAREB’s second annual Building Black Wealth Day homeownership, building wealth, and commemorating the 57th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act.
NAREB, an organization of predominantly Black real estate professionals known as Realtists, is committed to pursuing “Democracy in Housing.”
“Our mission is ensuring that Black families and individuals have equal opportunities to obtain, resources to maintain, and education to retain real estate,” Board President Andrew Scott said. “NAREB works to close the racial wealth gap and increase Black homeownership so our families can enjoy the benefits of owning a home.”
NAREB Realtist Week 2025 will feature educational programs, community engagement initiatives, and resources to empower individuals and families on their path to homeownership. The activities include national Building Black Wealth Day on April 12, where Buffalo will be one of more than 100 cities across the country that host an event on the NAREB Building Black Wealth Tour. The event will be held in Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers, which also sponsored the venue.
In more than 100 cities, seminars and one-on-one sessions will empower communities with steps toward homeownership, property investment, real estate career conversations and other wealth-building opportunities. NAREB’S National Building Black Wealth Day makes a difference by arming families with the information they need to make wealth-building decisions. Among the seminars and workshops in each city are:
√ “What to do with Big Momma's House?”
√ “ABCs of Homebuying”
√ “Where’s the Money?”
√ Real estate investing
√ Down payment assistance
√ Explore careers in real estate, one on ones with real estate attorneys
√ One on ones with housing counselors, attorneys, lenders, agents, and many more
Other Realtist Week Highlights include:
√ Fair housing anniversary recognition: Reflecting on the impact of the Fair Housing Act and its role in addressing housing discrimination.
√ Educational opportunities: Workshops and seminars cover financial literacy, homeownership preparation, credit repair, and generational wealth-building strategies.
√ Addressing homeownership challenges: A dedicated time to discuss systemic issues, wealth disparities, and the tools necessary to close the Black homeownership gap.
The local Buffalo-Niagara regional board warmly invites everyone to join us in celebrating the closing of Realtist Week and participating in these impactful events. Whether you are a prospective homebuyer, a current homeowner, or an advocate for housing equality, your presence and participation are welcomed and valued as we continue to advance the mission of equitable homeownership for all.
