Buffalo's Best Kielbasa contest returns April 12

Applications now open for homemade kielbasa entries

Buffalo’s Best Kielbasa contest is back to crown the best homemade sausagemakers in Western New York. The culinary showdown takes place at high noon on Saturday, April 12, at Potts Banquet Hall in the Clinton-Rossler Plaza.

This year will once again be homemade-only (no commercial category), and is broken down into the following categories:

√ fresh traditional

√ smoked traditional

√ fresh holiday (w. marjoram)

√ smoked holiday (w. marjoram)

√ nontraditional

A panel of judges will pick the best in each category, with winners receiving a prize package including gift certificates from The Sausage Maker and Potts Grille, a bottle of Buffalo Distilling Co. One Foot Cock Krupnik, and more. The top three finishers in each category will also receive a trophy commemorating their sausagemaking prowess.

The contest is free to enter, and the event is free and open to all, and will feature a performance by Captain Tom & The Hooligans, with food and drink available for purchase. Applications are available by emailing [email protected] or going to www.facebook.com/buffalobestkielbasa. Applications are due by April 4.

“Making kielbasa during the Easter season is an important Polish family tradition,” organizer Tod A. Kniazuk said. “It’s an honor to have so many folks willing to share that with us, and we’re happy to continue the contest.”

Buffalo’s Best Kielbasa Contest is presented with the support of Fillmore District Common Council Member Mitch Nowakowski, The Sausage Maker, Buffalo Distilling Co., Potts Banquet Hall, and The Big Easy in Buffalo.
