The Niagara County Department of Employment and Training will hold its next career fair on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Kenan Center Arena in Lockport, for those seeking employment. The career fair is open to everyone, with special focus being paid to Niagara County residents who lost their jobs with the closing of the Sumitomo Rubber Plant in Tonawanda.
Director of Employment and Training Don Jablonksi said more than 70 companies have signed up to participate. He said his office sent more than 300 personal invitations to former Sumitomo residents who live in Niagara County, inviting them to the event.
“January and February are often considered great months to seek employment, as many companies have new hiring budgets taking effect, which is why we have so many organizations taking part in this event,” Jablonski said. “There are job opportunities across all different sectors and at all levels of skill and experience.
The career fair will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Kenan Center Arena, located at 433 Locust St., Lockport. No appointment is necessary.
“As I always do, I want to stress to job seekers not to worry about a self-perceived lack of qualifications or experience, as many employers are looking for reliable and dependable candidates and are willing to provide significant training,” Jablonski said. “Plus, our WorkSourceOne team will be present to provide job seekers with services like resume writing and interview prep, so they are well prepared for their job search.”
