AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has been less than a dime away from the $3 mark for over a month as the waffling decline has been agonizingly slow. The last time the national average was below $3 was May 11, 2021. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand and total domestic gasoline stocks both rose slightly while gasoline production declined last week. As the average hovers at $3.02 today, AAA expects it could fall below $3 a gallon in the next few days.

To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage, while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
