On Wednesday, the board of directors for the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced the unanimous appointment of Erin Grajek as president and CEO, effective immediately. Grajek has served as interim president and CEO since the passing of Mark Mortenson in September. Prior to this role, she was the organization’s COO beginning in 2021 and has held various progressive leadership positions at the Botanical Gardens since 2006.

“Erin’s years of dedication and experience at the Botanical Gardens, combined with her proven ability to be a strong, capable leader during challenging times, made her the clear choice for this position,” said Tisha Luciani, board chair of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. “We are 100% confident in Erin’s ability to move the organization forward, particularly through our ambitious expansion plan.”

“It’s an honor to have the board’s trust and support as we enter this transformative chapter in the Botanical Gardens’ history,” Grajek said. “The Botanical Gardens has been a cornerstone of my professional journey and a passion close to my heart. I look forward to continuing our work to inspire, educate and connect this incredible community to our mission.”

Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that “welcomes all to enjoy its living plant collections, breathtaking conservatory, and educational programming.” Opened in 1900, the Botanical Gardens is located within a park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Support for the organization is provided by public funds from Erie County; the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; members; donors; and friends.
