Since Gov. Kathy Hochul approved NYPA’s expanded authority to build renewable energy projects on May 3, 2023, NYPA has advanced its plans for the development of new renewables. NYPA has established new business structures, filled key personnel roles, made required regulatory filings, obtained tax rulings, approved the formation of a renewables subsidiary, issued a $100 million bond for new renewable energy projects, and garnered other necessary information and resources to advance the first tranche of projects.
NYPA has identified 40 renewable projects – at least one in every region of the state – representing a total pipeline capacity of more than 3.5 GW. Further examination of the proposed projects, including their economics, community impacts and real-estate considerations, will determine their viability in the build out of the Power Authority’s renewable portfolio.
