Destination Niagara USA Press Release
This week, the New York state-commissioned Tourism Economics research study for 2023 was released, highlighting a landmark year for Niagara County's tourism industry. For the first time ever, visitor spending in Niagara County has exceeded the billion-dollar mark, reaching an impressive $1.082 billion. This represents an 11.7% increase over 2022, underscoring the county’s growing appeal as a premier travel destination.
Other key highlights from the 2023 report include:
•$8.6 million in county taxes generated: The revenue from tourism continues to play a critical role in supporting local government services and initiatives.
•Household tax relief: Were it not for the tourism-generated state and local taxes, the average household in the region would have to pay an additional $1,205 to maintain the same level of government revenue.
•Employment sustained by visitors: Within the Greater Niagara Region, Niagara County once again leads in tourism dependency, with 23.5% of all employment sustained by visitors.
Reflecting on this growth, Destination Niagara USA President & CEO John Percy stated, "Surpassing the billion-dollar mark in visitor spending is a tremendous achievement for Niagara County. This growth positively impacts all residents, as it leads to more jobs, increased economic activity, and lower taxes for our communities. We continue to see the positive impact of the thriving tourism industry in Niagara County through new attractions, restaurants and accommodations being added to an already impressive array of offerings.”
