MSM welcomes stroke coordinator-advanced practice provider

Mount St. Mary’s Hospital (MSMH) welcomes Wendy Callen, RPA-C, as the facility’s stroke coordinator – advanced practice provider. In this role, she will be responsible for the oversight of the stroke program at MSMH. In collaboration with the comprehensive stroke center’s leadership and a multi-disciplinary team, she will initiate process improvements, meet core measures, lead the certification processes, and ensure that providers and nurses have met educational requirements. Furthermore, she will facilitate patient and family teaching, providing leadership and working cooperatively with health care team members in maintaining quality standards to support the delivery of evidence-based acute stroke assessment and management at the hospital.

Wendy’s 20-plus years of experience includes an extensive background in neurology, patient care and practice management. Prior to joining Catholic Health, she served as a physician assistant with the Dent Neurologic Institute, diagnosing patients, managing complex neurological cases, working collaboratively with other medical providers, developing treatment modalities and care plans. She also held PA positions with the Buffalo Spine and Sports Institute and Buffalo Neurosurgery.

Additionally, she serves as a preceptor for physician assistant students at Daemen University, where she completed her the physician assistant studies, as well as obtaining a bachelor’s degree in applied science.

Wendy is affiliated with the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the NYS Society of Physician Assistants, the WNY PA Association and the Association of Neurosurgical Physician Assistants.
