Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center announced the opening of its new EMS crew-designated room in the ER1 emergency department, providing a dedicated space for crews to rest and enjoy refreshments while stopping at Memorial.

The opening coincides with the 50th annual National EMS Week, scheduled for May 19-25. NFMMC noted, “This year's theme, ‘Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future,’ encapsulates the dedication and hard work of EMS personnel throughout the years.

“In recognition of EMS Week, NFMMC will offer pizza, subs and ice cream all week long in this new space. This initiative is a gesture of immense gratitude towards the EMS teams who deliver indispensable services to our community.

“National EMS Week celebrates the invaluable contributions of EMS personnel. Locally, EMS agencies, hospitals and representatives from local and state legislatures honor EMS professionals through various events, including food, giveaways and public recognition.

“As the first emergency department in the region to be fully integrated with a cardiac care center and the first to employ physicians specializing in emergency medicine, Memorial's ER1 emergency department provides 24/7 expert, patient-centered care to the Niagara community and beyond. ER1 is also essential to Memorial’s New York state-designated Stroke Center, the first and most experienced center in Niagara County. Additionally, ER1 is home to the only dedicated psychiatric emergency department in Niagara County, offering comprehensive adult psychiatric assessments around the clock.”

Memorial invites all EMS personnel to celebrate EMS Week and enjoy complimentary meals and ice cream in its new EMS room, “recognizing the extraordinary efforts of those serving on the front lines of emergency medical care.”

Founded in 1895, NFMMC has a long tradition of serving the Niagara community. Memorial’s hospital and primary stroke program are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, and its primary care network is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The site’s inpatient services include a cardiac/stroke unit, a medical-surgical unit, an ICU, a labor and delivery unit, and an adult inpatient psychiatry unit – the only one of its kind in Niagara County. Thanks to a partnership with Catholic Health, Kaleida Health, and Erie County Medical Center, NFMMC operates the only cardiac catheterization laboratory in Niagara County. Memorial is also home to the Golisano Medical Oncology Center, which operates in collaboration with Roswell Park Comprehensive Care Center.
