John A. Vogel died April 4, 2024.
He was the beloved husband of Donna (Liebler); dear father of John Jr. (Danielle) and Jerald (Janice) Vogel; grandfather of Casey and Matthew Vogel; son of the late Adam and Estelle (Kasper), brother of the late Virginia and Clara Christy; survived by nieces and nephews.
John was a retired banker, an active member of the Buffalo Kiwanis Club, a U.S. Coast Guard sergeant, and a lifelong parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church.
His first, and only, employer was Marine Midland Bank (later becoming HSBC) where he spent his first year, as a teller, working at 26 different branches, much later finishing his career as vice president of the Business Services and Commercial Cash Management departments. Early in his career, he took the opportunity to represent the bank within the Buffalo-Downtown Kiwanis Club and was inducted as a member in 1966. Among other things, many of the club’s efforts are focused around the fundraising and logistics of “Kamp Kiwanis,” a foundation catering to the needs and entertainment of large groups of special needs children. John served tirelessly in this endeavor for over 57 years, even managing to qualify for a 50-year perfect attendance award.
In his later years, he remained active in his community including a directorship in the West River Homeowner Association, planting flowers in the West River parkway beds, activities within the Riverside High School Class of 1953 Alumni, and various service roles within his church.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, in All Saints Church, 127 Chadduck Ave., Buffalo. Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo Inc., 225 Como Park Blvd., Buffalo, NY 14227.
