At Tuesday’s meeting, the North Tonawanda Common Council and Mayor Austin Tylec recognized the outstanding service and dedication displayed by members of the North Tonawanda Fire Department and the Twin City Ambulance Corp.

On Aug. 5, the NTFD and Twin City Ambulance sprang into action following a distress call concerning a patient complaining of chest pain. Upon arrival, the situation escalated as the patient entered cardiac arrest. Acting with remarkable efficiency, the emergency crew swiftly administered CPR, defibrillation, and advanced life-saving interventions on the scene. The patient successfully regained a pulse and was expeditiously transported to Buffalo General Hospital for further medical attention.

The distinguished individuals acknowledged for their heroic efforts during this call include Capt. Aaron Mohr, firefighters Nicholas Johnson and Samuel Ricotta, and Twin City crew members Ann Pach McCartney and Gabrielle Bouchard.

In another life-saving endeavor on Sept. 1, the NTFD and Twin City Ambulance responded to a patient in cardiac arrest. The NTFD initiated immediate care, and the Twin City Ambulance team joined promptly. Remarkably, this patient received an extraordinary 50 minutes of CPR, coupled with multiple medications and treatments. Following the successful restoration of the patient's pulse, they were promptly transported to Buffalo General Hospital.

Astonishingly, less than one week later, the patient walked out of the hospital under their own power.

The individuals recognized for their heroic contributions during this second life-saving incident include Asst. Chief Ed Yaminski, Firefighters James Urban & Paul Fuhrman, and Twin City Crew Member Steven Fernandez.

These first-responders were given the "Lumber City First Responder Award" for their response to these two crucial EMS calls, which resulted in the saving of two lives.

This recognition highlights the unwavering commitment of the North Tonawanda Fire Department and the Twin City Ambulance Corp. to preserving and safeguarding lives within the community. The North Tonawanda community extends its heartfelt gratitude to these dedicated first responders for their exceptional skill, rapid response, and selfless service in the face of medical emergencies.
