Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.55, down 5 cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.80. The New York state average is $3.78, down 3 cents from a week ago. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.67.
AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
Despite global tensions causing ripples in the oil market, the national average for a gallon of gas has continued its autumnal dip, falling 5 cents since last week to $3.55. Pump prices have fallen 33 cents from their 2023 peak of $3.88 last month, and that is helping drivers save about $5 every time they fuel up.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand increased while supply fell over the last week, but flat oil prices are keeping pump prices on the decline. Oil is trading in the $87-$91 per barrel range this morning.
There is mixed data when it comes to diesel prices. The national average price for diesel is $4.50, up 4 cents from last Monday, but down from $5.33 a year ago. The New York average for diesel is $4.70, down 1 cent from a week ago, but lower than $5.75 one year ago.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage, while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
