My name is George Hauss, and I want to officially introduce myself as I embark on my candidacy for Grand Island town clerk. As a resident for the last 20 years, representing my neighbors would be a great honor.
I am an attorney with 27 years of legal experience in real estate, tax, estate planning, and probate. I am also a certified public accountant. I received a bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University, a law degree from University of Akron, a master’s degree in taxation from McGeorge School of Law, and my MBA in professional accounting from Canisius College. I very much seek the opportunity to use my education and experience for the benefit of Grand Island residents.
I am currently a supervising accountant in the Erie County Real Property Department. In this role, I work directly with town clerks across the county. This has allowed me to learn a great deal about the position and how town clerks interface and work with Erie County. However, my biggest takeaway has been that other town clerks and their staffs work more efficiently and cooperatively than the current town clerk of Grand Island.
There are many time and money savings reforms that can be implemented in our clerk's office, but have yet to be. I plan to make these changes that will not only enhance the town budget, but improve the lives of residents. My experience will allow me to have an immediate impact and bring the Grand Island Town Clerk's Office into the 21st century.
I am very active in the community doing pro bono work assisting people with their taxes and legal aid services. In addition, I have also served in the government at the local level as a judicial law clerk and on the federal level as an attorney adviser.
Again, it would be an honor to serve you as the next Grand Island town clerk, and I ask you to entrust me with your vote on Nov. 7, 2023.
