The Grand Island Vikings 10U B (Bagley) softball team recently attended the second annual Lady Cardinal Tournament in Arcade and took first place.
The weekend started out with 9-1 victory over Olean. Then, after a 7-7 tie against the Lady Cardinals, the Vikings finished Saturday with a 17-5 victory over USSSA Pride to secure a spot in the gold medal bracket.
Lilly Ventura and Ramona Slaiman stood fast on the mound and threw an arsenal of pitches.
The Vikings were set to play the top seed, Clarence Red Devils, an A team, while battling difficult weather. The Vikings battled through rainy conditions and came out with a 20-17 victory to win the tournament championship.
This team is only in its second year, and is coached by Charles Bagley and Brad Gearhart.
The Vikings are off to a great start to the season, with a 3-0 record.
