AAUW Buffalo Branch announced the selection of Gov. Kathy Hochul as the 2023 Branch Achievement Award recipient. It noted, “This honor has been presented annually to area women of distinction since 1940. As the 57th and first female governor of New York state, Gov. Hochul has distinguished herself as a leader with a strong past of public service and a bold vision for New York’s future.”
A press release explained Hochul is a lifelong public servant who began her public service career serving on her local town board for 14 years. She was elected as Erie County clerk from 2007-11. She was then elected to Congress and represented New York’s 26th Congressional District from 2011-13. From 2015-21, she served as lieutenant governor. On Jan. 1, 2023, she was sworn in as the 57th governor of New York.
The award will be presented on May 6 at the AAUW Buffalo Branch annual meeting, to be held at Ellden’s Grill and Banquet River Oaks Golf Club on Grand Island. Bonnie Kane Lockwood, Hochul’s regional director in Western New York, will accept the award.
