The Erie County Fair has added three free concerts – “full of timeless dance favorites,” it said – to this year’s lineup: Chubby Checker, The Guess Who and The Spinners.
Chubby Checker will perform on The Buffalo News Grandstand on opening night, Aug. 9. He is an American rock ‘n’ roll singer who “changed the way we dance to the beat, 24/7, since 1959,” a press release stated. “He is the only artist to have five albums in the Top 12 all at once, to have a song be No. 1 twice (‘The Twist’), and to have nine double-sided hits.”
Legendary Canadian band The Guess Who, best known internationally for the album “American Woman,” and top 40 hit singles “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature” and “American Woman,” will perform Aug. 17.
