Losing brewery will donate to the winning team’s sports charity of choice

Today, Community Beer Works (CBW) and Rhinegeist Brewery have announced a friendly for-good rivalry for this Sunday’s game between Buffalo and Cincinnati. Each brewery has selected a charity with relations to their hometown team. The losing brewery will place a $1,000 donation to the winning brewery’s designated charity.

“The craft beer industry is a tight-knit space that fosters cross-city partnerships. This fun rivalry is an engaging way to channel our cities’ football team spirit into charitable goodwill. We hope Rhinegeist is feeling extra philanthropic this weekend! ” said Community Beer Works co-founder Chris Smith. “Good luck to our friends at Rhinegeist Brewery and all of Cincinnati – and most importantly, let’s go Buffalo!”

Charities chosen by each brewery aimed to raise awareness for the causes and values they support. CBW selected Damar Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation Charitable Fund – an organization dedicated to supporting toy drives, back-to-school drives, kids camps, and more youth-focused initiatives. Rhinegeist Brewery selected the Joe Burrow Foundation in recognition of its work helping children with mental illness, and those experiencing food insecurity.

To kick-off the friendly matchup, both breweries sent care packages to one another. The packages consisted of swag from opposing brewery – including T-shirts, scarves and hats. As an added layer of competitiveness, the losing brewery must also rep the winning team’s swag (found within the package) for the following week.

The annual matchup held by Cincinnati came to Buffalo this year due to Western New York’s roots extending into The Blue Chip City. When evaluating which brewery to partner with for the 2023 matchup, three Rhinegeist Brewery employees from Western New York named CBW, making it a unanimous decision.

CBW was founded with a mission to celebrate and revitalize Western New York’s local beer-brewing culture. Since the first beer was poured, the company has brewed more than 300 types of beers, built a 13,000-square-foot brewery and taproom, designed a monthly subscription service and rewards program, and launched a beer-delivery/pick-up program.
