The weekend after Thanksgiving, Destination Niagara USA kicked off a fundraiser to benefit the Niagara Falls Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund. One hundred percent of the profits from holiday ornament sales in the Niagara Falls USA Official Visitor Center from Saturday, Nov. 26, through Sunday, Dec. 18, went to the annual toy drive, now in its 94th year.
Destination Niagara USA President and CEO John Percy said he was pleasantly surprised how the ornament sales resulted in more than $1,100 donated to the cause.
“This was our first year participating in efforts to raise money for the Niagara Falls Firefighter’s Christmas Toy Fund, and we were thrilled with the support received from the community,” he said.
Ornaments were sold in the Niagara Falls USA Visitor Center and online, with purchases coming in from all over the country.
Firefighter PJ Difrancesco said the Niagara Falls Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund has helped 320 families in need so far this holiday season, providing two toys to each child.
John O’Malley, chairman of the Niagara Falls Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund, noted the goal this year is to raise $90,000 – and they are still working to reach that amount.
