A regional provider of orthopedic medical care will soon be expanding in Niagara County.

Excelsior Orthopaedics has targeted early January for the opening of a much larger facility in Niagara Falls, where new non-surgical and diagnostic services will complement existing care for patients with shoulder, knee, hip and other ailments.

“We’re putting the finishing touches on it now,” Excelsior CEO David Uba said. “We plan to open Jan. 3.”

Although its current Niagara Falls office opened just five years ago, the Western New York medical practice has been providing surgical, non-surgical and rehabilitative care since 2002, when it opened its first center in Amherst. It has since grown to include facilities in Buffalo, East Amherst, Orchard Park, Elma and Niagara Falls.

The current Niagara Falls center is located at 10175 Niagara Falls Blvd., across from the Niagara Falls International Airport. Excelsior’s expanded facility will be at the same location.

Uba said he is most excited about the new capability the site will have to conduct onsite magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing, a valuable tool that will supplement onsite X-rays for diagnosing orthopedic injuries.

Other features will include:

√ Additional exam rooms to accommodate the growing number of physicians and other providers who will be treating patients there.

√ A continued emphasis on Excelsior Express urgent care, which offers same-day access for people with fractures, sprains, torn ligaments and other non-life-threatening injuries.

√ The addition of Dr. James Behr, an interventional pain medicine specialist who non-surgically treats acute and chronic pain, including lower back pain.

“We’re happy to have that in Niagara County,” Uba said. “It fills a huge gap for us.”

The Niagara Falls expansion will lessen the need for local patients to travel outside Niagara County to receive advanced orthopedic care, Uba said.

“Health care is regional, but it’s also local,” he said. “We’re excited about expanding our services in an ideal location to serve Niagara County and Grand Island.”
