Riser House/Columbia Nashville hitmaker Mitchell Tenpenny recently enlisted the help of Grammy-nominated performer Danny Gokey to record a new version of his smash hit “Bucket List.” The two powerhouse vocalists, who connected through a mutual friend, spar it out on the refreshed track, released last weekend. The song, written by Tenpenny, Chris DeStefano and Laura Veltz, was originally released one year ago on New Year’s Day 2021. The “Bucket List” (lyrics here) original version is included Mitchell’s current EP, “Midtown Diaries,” which was released in September. Find the Tenpenny/Gokey version here

The singers carved out time from their busy schedules last month to shoot a music video for “Bucket List” at the Melrose Church at Fiddlers Grove in Wilson County, Tennessee. The film was shot with director Tristan Cusick. Watch it here.

“ ‘Bucket List’ is about trying to live everyday like it’s your last. You never know how long you have on this earth, so you need to try and live it to the fullest," Tenpenny said. “I’ve been a big fan of Danny’s for a long time; his voice is so incredible. And even though this song has been out for a while now, I felt he could bring the song to the Christian music community; and I knew no one else could do it better. He’s completely changed this song. I’m honored and grateful he would do this with me.”

Gokey said, “I love the sentiment of the song and love the lyrics. I hope that people absorb the lyrics and start living life like never before.”

Tenpenny headlined the Capital One Orange Bowl Fan Fest before the 2021 College Football Semifinal game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

He recently released “Midtown Diaries.” Tenpenny  produced the eight-song project with Jordan M Schmidt and co-wrote all the tracks, including his current radio single “Truth About You.” Before the song went to country radio, he previewed it for his fans on TikTok.

“You listen to the fans who listen to you,” Tenpenny said about their instantaneous reaction. The song became the largest streaming debut of his career, now with 50 million-plus total on-demand streams. Last month, Tenpenny  released an early Christmas gift for his fans with “Naughty List,” his new, 11-song Christmas album.

Since the release of his debut single, “Drunk Me,” Tenpenny has set new standards for breakout success in country music. The two-times-Platinum-certified, No. 1 hit has amassed over 500 million on-demand streams. It was taken from his introductory 2018 album, “Telling All My Secrets,” and earned him the best first week showing for any major label country debut LP. Since that time, the singer was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards and Breakthrough Video (“Drunk Me”) at the CMT Music Awards. His “Alcohol You Later” and “Anything She Says” singles are certified Gold.

Gokey, A Three-time Grammy Award nominee, three-time KLOVE Male Vocalist of the Year, Dove Award winner, and eight-time Dove Award Nominee, became a favorite of millions of fans as a top 3 finalist on season eight of “American Idol.” Following that, Gokey dropped his first album, “My Best Days.” Since that time, he has celebrated a series of No. 1s, including his follow-up releases “Hope In Front of Me,” “Rise” and “Haven’t Seen It Yet,” plus holiday albums “Christmas Is Here” and “The Greatest Gift.”

With singles “Hope In Front of Me,” “Rise,” “The Comeback,” and RIAA Gold-certified “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” and “Haven’t Seen It Yet,” Gokey has cemented his place on the radio charts with multiweek, multichart-topping runs in the U.S., Canada, and now Latin markets with the releases of Spanish singles and collaborations.

The desire to make a broader impact with his message of hope led to the founding of nonprofit organization Better Than I Found It. Gokey and his wife, Leyiet, also launched “Livin’ la Vida Gokey,” a podcast featuring conversations about faith and family. Find out more at DannyGokey.com.
