Abraxas Inc. was back at the Frontier House in Lewiston this week to continue repairing the exterior mortar.
The award-winning Grand Island company first began removing old mortar and replacing missing pieces in December 2020. A special blend is used to match the remaining parts. This is required as the Frontier House is on the state and national historic registry lists. Construction must adhere to specific and historically accurate standards.
On Wednesday, Ellicott Development Director of Development Thomas Fox and architect Jim Fittante met with representatives of the New York State Historic Preservation Office regarding renovations to the 197-year-old building.
“I met SHPO this morning for visual inspection of the existing windows. Their review of the project is moving along well,” Fox said.
