Thanks to the generosity of the many people who contributed, this year’s Ladies of Charity Book Bag Project was a great success. This ecumenical project will provide hundreds of book bags for children in need.
Barbara LaDuca has overseen collecting supplies on Grand Island for the past 19 years. The photo shows Carol Moscati, Barbara LaDuca, Jim Frase and Stephen Frase, who helped deliver the collected supplies to the Ladies of Charity city office. This year, they delivered 30 boxes of assorted school supplies and book bags. This will be added to other collections that will then be packed by young volunteers at the Ladies of Charities office on Broadway.
With the help of Catholic Charities, they will locate children in need of all denominations and provide them with book bags filled with needed supplies.
LaDuca was pleased that, even though the pandemic was a concern, the actual response for both last year and this year set new records for contributions.
Organizers said, “This a very good cause and it is wonderful that people have been so generous. On behalf of the children, we want to thank everyone who help make this project a great success.”
