On May 1, the Historic Palace Theatre will host a grand reopening event, “Dazzling Through the Decades.”

The venue has been closed for a year, due to coronavirus restrictions. A press release stated, “During that time, we took the opportunity to move forward with our grand restoration. The evening will feature behind-the-scenes tours of the completed renovations, delicious cuisine from Shamus Restaurant, a basket raffle, a Mills Jewelers diamond raffle, artisan piano bar raffle, and the chance to win $2,500, $1,000 or $500.

In March 2018, the Palace Theatre embarked on a $2.1 million grand restoration campaign, which grew into a $4 million project. “Dazzling Through the Decades” will celebrate this project.

During this campaign all of the interior theatre paint and plaster has been restored, all detail painting completed, the interior and exterior lobbies restored, the orchestra pit has been expanded (complete with a hydraulic lift), new rigging and brand-new seats on the orchestra and balcony levels were installed. On May 1, guests will have the opportunity to explore the theater and hear from the teams that coordinated this effort.

“Dazzling Through the Decades” will be held in three different time blocks to allow for social distancing: 2-4, 4:30-6:30 and 7-9 p.m. Tickets for this event are $125 a couple and are available online at lockportpalacetheatre.org and at Mills Jewelers.

The Historic Palace Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Lockport. Built in 1925 by Charles Dickenson, the proscenium arch-style space is well known as an architectural marvel of the city. The theater is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization, Historic Palace Inc.
