Mike Tirico to call both NHL outdoor matchups at Lake Tahoe on NBC

UPDATE: The NHL has announced Sunday’s Honda NHL outdoors game at Lake Tahoe between the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins on NBC will now begin at 2 p.m. ET.

Subsequently, the premiere of “Doc Emrick – The Voice of Hockey, Presented by Discover” – detailing the illustrious career of U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and eight-time Sports Emmy Award winner Mike “Doc” Emrick – will now air at 5 p.m. on NBC, following coverage of Flyers-Bruins. The Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche remains a start time of 3 p.m. on NBC.

Mike Tirico will call both games this weekend alongside Eddie Olczyk (analyst) and Brian Boucher (“Inside-the-Glass” analyst). NBC Sports’ Rutledge Wood will serve as an on-site reporter in Lake Tahoe.

NHL outdoor game play-by-play debut for Tirico

Mike Tirico will handle play-by-play duties for the two NHL outdoor matchups at Lake Tahoe on Saturday, Feb. 20, between the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights at 3 p.m. ET on NBC and Sunday, Feb. 21, featuring the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers at 3 p.m. on NBC. The Lake Tahoe matchups will mark Tirico’s play-by-play debut on an NHL outdoor game in his storied broadcasting career.

Tirico hosts NBC Olympics’ primetime coverage, “Football Night in America” and many other premier events. The Syracuse University grad serves as the lead play-by-play voice for NBC Sports’ Notre Dame football coverage. Tirico made his NHL play-by-play debut in February 2019 and has worked numerous games since, including during the 2020 Stanley Cup qualifying round.

Over the course of the month, Tirico will call four NHL matchups, beginning with tonight’s “Wednesday Night Hockey” clash between David Pastrnak and Claude Giroux and rivals Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers at 8 p.m. on NBCSN. He’ll call the game alongside U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk (analyst) and Brian Boucher (“Inside-the-Glass” analyst). He will also handle play-by-play with Olczyk for a “Wednesday Night Hockey” matchup between Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks and Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
