Lewiston-Porter’s much-anticipated “One District, One Book” reveal was held at the Lewiston Public Library on Wednesday. And the winner is “The One and Only Ivan,” by Katherine Applegate.

The turnout was incredible, with 300 children, parents and community members filling the Lewiston Public Library with excitement, and cheering as Superintendent Paul Casseri announced the winner.

Elementary students in grades K-6 will each receive a copy of “The One and Only Ivan,” and class members and families will read the book at the same time.

“One District, One Book” is a fantastic opportunity for our whole community to connect. Even if you do not currently have a child in elementary school, you can instantly connect with a little one through this book. Pick one up or visit the Lewiston-Porter website, www.lew-port.com, to watch the video series of special guests reading each chapter.

A shout-out to all who made this wonderful event possible – principals Tamara Larson (PEC), Tina Rodriguez (IEC), Andy Auer and Alan Ingraham (MS); OD/OB advisers Heather Zielinski and Becky Cummisky; the Lew-Port PTSA (especially Julie Donnelley, April Saks, Yokasta Munoz, Danielle Mullen and Hope Wright); Lew-Port teachers Lisa Winslow, Katie Eckstein, Kristen Maggi, Kelley Kinnaird, Karianne Schmitt (PEC); Christine DuMoulin, Julie Stevener, Rachel Smith, Kelly Block, Janelle Suita (IEC); and Amy Golden and Mary Ellen Aureli in the middle school; and the Lewiston Public Library, Youngstown Free Library and Ransomville Free Library, and their dedicated librarians and staff.

Also thanks to DiMino’s Lewiston Tops for the adorable and delicious “Ivan”-themed cupcakes, and to Favorite’s Pizza, who gave the first 100 children certificates for a slice of pizza. Many local restaurants supported this event with special promotions, including Apple Granny, Brickyard Pub & BBQ, Brickyard Brewing Company, Tin Pan Alley and Spicey Pickle. The fun continues throughout Lewiston and Porter with a weekly scavenger hunt and Orange Cat Coffee serving up “Ivan’s Ideal Latte” (chocolate/banana/marshmallow and 10% off!).

A true community effort centered on one book: Thank you all!
