129 companies one step closer to shot at cut of $5 million in investment
43North Finals will be Oct. 30 at Shea’s Performing Arts Center
43North’s judges have whittled more than 500 applicants to 129 semifinalists for 43North’s sixth annual $5 million startup competition. As judges reviewed the applications, they emphasized compatibility with Buffalo, company traction, team quality, and previous capital raised, officials announced.
The semifinalists, chosen from 528 applicants, will now give live video pitches to a team of judges for the chance to become one of up to 20 43North finalists.
Additional rounds of the competition will follow this schedule:
•Oct. 29: 43North qualifying round, in which the finalists will pitch live in Buffalo at a venue to be announced
•Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.: 43North Finals will feature the top 10 finalists pitching live on the stage of Shea’s Performing Arts Center for a shot at 43North’s $1 million top investment or one of seven $500,000 investments
“When you consider the caliber of the companies that entered this year’s 43North competition – from the quality and size of their teams, to the capital they’ve already raised, to their plans for how they would grow in Buffalo – it is an accomplishment in itself for our semifinalists to have made it this far,” said 43North President Alex Gress. “Within this set of 129 semifinalists, there are eight of Buffalo’s next great companies – be sure to block out Oct. 30 to see which of these inspiring startups rise to the top at 43North Finals!”
