Forbes ranks NYPA 2nd among utilities, 52nd on national list of 500 companies

The New York Power Authority is featured on Forbes magazine’s list of America’s Best Midsize Employers for the second year in a row, ranking second in the utility industry and 52nd on the full list of companies “liked best” by employees.

America’s Best Midsize Employers were selected based on an independent survey where more than 30,000 employees working for companies with at least 1,000 people were asked open-ended questions regarding his/her own employer. A total of 500 companies were ranked in the midsize category.

“The New York Power Authority, as the largest public power company in the U.S., is pleased to be included on Forbes’ prestigious annual ranking of top employers for the second year in a row,” said Gil C. Quiniones, NYPA’s president and CEO. “At NYPA, we have top-tier professionals leading the energy revolution, under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s leadership and clean energy vision, alongside our utility peers, which are mostly for-profit companies. Our employees benefit from a culture of inclusion and diversity, and a progressive lineup of opportunities for job advancement and growth. We, together, make NYPA a great place to work.”

To determine the list, the market research company Statista surveyed 30,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees. All the surveys were anonymous, allowing participants to openly share their opinions. The respondents were asked to rate, on a scale of zero to 10, how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others. Statista then asked respondents to nominate organizations in industries outside their own. The list ranks the 500 employers that received the most recommendations.

NYPA employs more than 1,800 workers in New York. Creating a dynamic, engaged and upwardly mobile workforce of the future is a key component of NYPA’s 2020 strategic plan.

NYPA’s team includes people with a wide range of skills: engineers, power line repairers, business experts, IT specialists, project managers, policy experts and data pros - just to name a few. Check out available job openings and intern opportunities.
