Golden Age Center: 98th birthday celebrated

Tuesday at the town’s Golden Age Center, members of the center helped Betty Marinell celebrate her 98th birthday.

Jennifer Menter, recreation supervisor, and senior citizens at the GAC gathered around a table set with chocolate birthday cake, Marinell’s favorite, for the celebration. Menter said more such celebrations are in the works at the center, located at 3278 Whitehaven Road.

“Betty’s a young 98,” Menter said. “These are members and seniors I want to celebrate.”

On the first Wednesday of the month, golden-agers with a birthday in the month also enjoy a birthday lunch featuring ice cream and cake provided by Elderwood Grand Island.

“I’m grateful to have their support,” Menter said of Elderwood.

Seniors sing “Happy Birthday” and give cards, the Golden Age Club president presents gifts, and all in attendance are treated to entertainment

“We try to make it as special as possible” for the Golden Age Center family, Menter said.

“I just feel like people like that are amazing,” Menter added. “They inspire me.”
