Though the Historic Lewiston chapter of the American Wine Society popped its cork only one year ago, the group is already making waves nationally.

Tina Tusa, bottom, who started the chapter with Kris Trunzo, was recently awarded the Outstanding Chapter Chair 2018 award. The American Wine Society presented the trophy, “In appreciation for extraordinary service and dedication.”

Currently, the AWS has 180 chapters and more than 8,000 members.

Lewiston’s group began with about 25 people in February 2018. Thirteen months later, that number is now 90.

On Tuesday night, the Historic Lewiston chapter welcomed Chiara Latini and Donato Della Croce (below) to a meeting inside the Brickyard Brewing Company’s banquet room. The pair came all the way from Italy with eight bottles from a winery in Sienna. Guests were given an opportunity to sample product not sold in the U.S.

The local wine connoisseurs meet on the second Tuesday of each month for wine education and appreciation.
