Quarantillo coming home for 'King of the Cage' fight

Ransomville’s Billy Quarantillo will step into the cage Saturday, Feb. 23, as he returns to the Seneca Niagara Casino, hoping to improve his record to 3-0 as a professional mixed martial artist for “King of The Cage.”

Quarantillo made his “King of the Cage” debut in 2016, winning a unanimous decision over Matthew DiMarcantonio. Six months later, Quarantillo captured the KOTC Lightweight belt when he dominated Ryan Fillingame, forcing him to retire after two rounds. It was a fight Quarantillo fought for almost 10 minutes with a broken hand.

Quarantillo continued his win streak in August of 2017 with a first-round TKO over veteran fighter Eric Reynolds. However, a devastating injury to his knee in December forced him to take almost a year off.

“At first I was devastated by the injury,” Quarantillo said. “The thought of being out for an entire year crushed me, but I had no choice, I’m a fighter. This is what I love to do. I told myself I’m gonna come back from this faster and stronger than I was before. This won’t break me.”

Quarantillo took a professional boxing match in October of 2018 and won a unanimous decision.

“My off time was spent boxing. Essentially I took six months off from MMA completely and just boxed while I rehabbed my leg. That could be the factor in this fight. My hands are on a new level.”

Quarantillo will be in for a fight – one that might be the most important of his career – when he faces Adrian Vilaca (8-2).

“It’s nothing personal and not about my opponent,” he said. “It’s about overcoming this injury and coming back better from it in a fraction of the standard time. I’m here to prove I’m one of the best featherweights in the world.”

Quarantillo is anticipating a sold-out venue and said he looks forward to showing his hometown and the rest of the country that he can fight for the top organizations in the world – and be successful in doing so.
