NCCC to host Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton

The Niagara County Community College animation program will host internationally acclaimed animator Bill Plympton at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the NCCC Arts and Media Theatre. He will lecture on his work, doing drawings, and showing some of his latest animated short films. The event is free and open to the public, with the opportunity to have the animator create sketches for those in attendance.

Plympton, dubbed the “King of Indie Animation,” received Oscar nominations for his animated short films “Your Face” and “Guard Dog.” His short film “Push Comes to Shove” won the prestigious Cannes 1991 Palme d’Or award, and, in 2001, his short film, “Eat” won the grand prize for short films in Cannes Critics’ Week.

Plympton’s experience spans many genres and includes collaboration with Madonna, Kanye West and “Weird Al” Yankovic in a number of music video and book projects. In 2006, he received the Winsor McCay Lifetime Achievement Award from the Annie Awards, which is a branch of the International Film Association that recognizes excellence in animation in film and television.
