Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center on Friday announced the addition of three physicians and a family nurse practitioner to its women’s health department, which includes its labor and delivery unit.

Gil M. Farkash, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is a graduate of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo. A diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Farkash is a laborist and site director at the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital and a former chief of obstetrics and gynecology for Kaleida Health.

Martin Caliendo, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is a graduate of the Aurora University and M.D. Rush Medical College. He served his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center and subsequently completed a master’s degree in patient safety at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Caliendo is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and currently serves as medical director for OB Hospitalist Services at Oishei Children’s Hospital.

Farkash and Caliendo will provide care at Memorial as laborists – experienced hospital-based physicians who respond to obstetric emergencies and care for women in labor to ensure a doctor experienced in delivering babies is present to use current, evidence-based practice protocols at all stages of the labor, delivery and post-delivery care of mother and baby.

Archana Sonig, M.D., is expected to begin working full time at Memorial upon completing her OB/GYN residency at the University of Buffalo this summer. Sonig is a graduate of the Kasturba Medical College, India, and the Rabindranath Tagore Medical College, India, where she was awarded a master’s degree in obstetrics and gynecology.

She has previously worked as a clinical researcher and research coordinator at both the University of Buffalo and the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, Louisiana.

Erin DeMarco, FNP-BC, has joined the staff as a full-time women’s health nurse practitioner.

A Niagara Falls native, DeMarco holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Daemen College and a Master of Science degree/family nurse practitioner from D’Youville College. She previously worked as a registered nurse in Memorial’s medical/surgical and emergency departments.

DeMarco will provide outpatient obstetric and gynecological care at both The OB/GYN Center at Niagara Falls Memorial and The OB/GYN Center at the Summit Healthplex.

“These experienced providers will help oversee the care of expectant mothers and work with our established OB/GYNs and medical center staff to provide optimal inpatient and outpatient care and patient satisfaction,” said Memorial President and CEO Joseph A. Ruffolo.

They will join doctors Renee Baughman, Hannah Bailey, Donna Feldman, Shrutika Vasudeva and Physician Assistant Laura DeBacco Malysza in providing quality care at Niagara Falls Memorial and its outpatient OB/GYN centers.
