Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign falling behind statewide, in need of help

Officials concerned as year-round need continues to increase

The Salvation Army Empire State Division provided nearly 4 million meals to individuals and families who needed it most, thanks to so many who generously gave to last year’s annual Red Kettle Campaign. Funds raised through the kettles are essential to support services such as meal programs, emergency disaster services, youth character development, and other services designed to lift people out of poverty.

However, with just 10 ringing days left in this year’s campaign, the kettles are trending short of the statewide goal.

The Salvation Army Empire State Division has 45 service centers, 166 volunteer-led service units that, together, meet the unique needs in the division's 48-county footprint. While services in each of these areas vary, the mission “to meet human needs” never changes.

“We’re reaching a critical point in this campaign,” said Maj. Ivan K. Rock, state commander of The Salvation Army Empire Division. “Donations in the kettles build our capacity to meet needs and transform lives in every ZIP code in our division. And every indicator, every predictor we use points to an even greater need in the year to come. Each donation, every hour of bellringing will literally be helping us put food on the table for individuals and families in need.”

Volunteer bell ringers are needed throughout The Salvation Army's 48-county region. An hour of bellringing yields enough money in the kettle to provide 13 meals. Anyone interested in ringing the bell is invited to visit: http://bit.ly/beabellringer to sign up.

Donations made at the kettle or online at http://give.salvationarmy.org/EMP stay in the community in which they originate.

When one gives to The Salvation Army now or at any time throughout the year, one is helping neighbors in need. One can also support the work of The Salvation Army by starting an online fundraiser at http://fundraiseforgood.org.
