For the sixth year, Community Missions' annual event, #GivingTuesday, inspired people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities by providing an enjoyable holiday season to those in need. To help with the initiative this year, more than 100 students and nine local restaurants partnered with Community Missions, including American Niagara Hospitality. ANH is donating a portion of its Nov. 29 sales at Rainforest Cafe, Chill 443 and TGI Fridays to Community Missions.
ANH officials said they were "very excited to be a part of this generous campaign and to support Community Missions for the fourth year in a row. Our restaurants, Rainforest Cafe, Chill 443 and TGI Fridays, all located in downtown Niagara Falls, participated in the #GivingTuesday project. These three local restaurants, along with Third Street Retreat, Village Bake Shoppe, Anchor Bar, Parkway Prime, LongHorn Steakhouse, Bellavista Restaurant and Power City Eatery, have offered to donate."
Community Missions will receive more than $900 from ANH.
"Its a testament to our community to see the support we saw (Giving Tuesday) for Community Missions," said Geoffrey Reeds, vice president of sales and marketing at American Niagara Hospitality. "We always enjoy working with Community Missions and supporting the tremendous work they do for the Niagara Falls community. This is just one way we feel we can give back during this holiday season."
Robyn L. Krueger, Community Missions' executive director, said, "Each year, #GivingTuesday is an opportunity for everyone to give back to the causes that they support. At Community Missions, we go all out, inviting volunteers to prepare meals, sort donations, decorate for the holidays, and many other tasks. These volunteers were featured on television stories throughout the day, spreading our ethos of 'Compassion In Action' throughout Western New York.
"While these volunteers - many of them local high school and college students - were busy working, many of you - our wonderful supporters - were busy, too. Thanks to you, we raised $3,400 in just a single day of donations, well surpassing our $1,000 goal! This will particularly help us in providing code blue services, when people come to us for shelter when the elements prove too harsh to sleep outside."
Community Missions Director of Communication Christian Hoffman said, "At Community Missions, we look forward to #GivingTuesday and the opportunities that it offers each year. The Niagara community is one that is so generous, and it is always wonderful to see all of the different ways that our supporters want to do so."
