Bob Costas & NBC Sports look back at 25th anniversary of 1993 'Game of the Century': No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 2 Notre Dame
Nearly 25 years to the day of the No. 1 vs. No. 2 "Game of the Century" between Florida State and Notre Dame, QB Ian Book and the No. 3 Fighting Irish (9-0) aim to maintain their undefeated season and College Football Playoff aspirations with a win against the Florida State Seminoles (4-5) at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, this Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET) on NBC. Pre-game coverage on Saturday starts at 7 p.m. with "Countdown to Kickoff" on NBCSN.
The Fighting Irish enter Saturday's matchup with Florida State following a 31-21 win on the road against Northwestern to remain undefeated in 2018. Book led Notre Dame's charge in the second half, connecting on 15-of-19 throws for 236 yards in the final two quarters and capping the win with a 23-yard touchdown run with 2:45 remaining in the game. Florida State is coming off a 47-28 loss to N.C. State, in which sophomore QB James Blackman passed for 421 yards and four touchdowns in defeat.
This is just the ninth meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Florida State. The Seminoles lead the all-time series (6-2), including a 31-27 win in their most recent clash in 2014 in Tallahassee.
NBC Sports' Notre Dame football commentary team is led by Mike Tirico, who is in his second full season as the voice of "Notre Dame Football on NBC." He's joined in the booth by Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie (analyst), sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen, and on-air rules analyst Terry McAulay. Liam McHugh will host pre-game, halftime and post-game coverage alongside former college and NFL quarterback Chris Simms (studio analyst).
