The legendary bacon cheeseburger at Apple Granny Restaurant has recently become a big brother to two new sandwich creations: a barbecue burger, and a burger topped with mac-and-cheese.
"At Apple Granny's, we're always trying to find things that fit well within our all-American menu," co-owner Chuck Barber said. "I think we have a great hamburger, and we're always looking for varieties. People love burgers, so we're looking for different varieties."
Of the first burger, Barber said, "We have a nice, thick burger covered in bacon, barbecue sauce, with some onion rings on top. We're calling it our 'Bronco Burger.' That's gone over well."
For the second burger, Barber said, "We have great, homemade macaroni and cheese. So, we thought we'd try to combine the two. We have a nice, big, thick burger smothered in that homemade macaroni and cheese."
Customer reaction has been "great," Barber said. "People, I think, are always surprised about how filling and thick the burger is, and how good it is."
Both burgers are special items not listed on the regular menu, so patrons may want to call ahead and check on availability (716-754-2028).
Apple Granny is located at 433 Center St., Lewiston.
