Carrie Underwood returns to show as superstar guest mentor, performs hit single 'Cry Pretty'
The stakes are high as the top 5 "American Idol" finalists perform in hopes of winning America's vote and making it through to the finals, as the search for America's next superstar continues on its new home on America's network, The ABC Television Network, Sunday, May 13 (8-10:01 p.m. EDT), streaming and on demand.
In this episode in honor of Mother's Day, the finalists will sing songs dedicated to moms, in addition to performing from the catalogue of "American Idol" alum and seven-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood. The finalists were surprised with a trip to Nashville and the opportunity to learn from Underwood while she served as superstar guest mentor for the week.
Underwood will also perform her hit single, "Cry Pretty," which she co-wrote and co-produced, from the "Idol" stage on Sunday.
The top 5 finalists and their song choices for this week include:
  • Cade Foehner: "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Undo It" by Carrie Underwood
  • Caleb Lee Hutchinson: "Stars in Alabama" by Jamey Johnson, "So Small" by Carrie Underwood
  • Gabby Barrett: "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston, "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood

  • Michael J. Woodard: "Still I Rise" by Yolanda Adams, "Flat on the Floor" by Carrie Underwood
For the first time in the history of American television, a reality-competition series is allowing viewers to watch and vote from coast to coast simultaneously, as "American Idol" is simulcast in all time zones across the country over a three-week span, which concludes Sunday. Viewers are able to vote by text, via AmericanIdol.com/vote and on the "American Idol" app during the live broadcast. Results will be revealed at the end of each show in real time, across all time zones. During this three-week span, these episodes will also be rebroadcast during their normal time slot on Sundays at 8-10:01 p.m. PDT.
Helping America determine who will become the next singing sensation are music industry forces and superstar judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, with Emmy Award-winning Ryan Seacrest returning as host.
