National Geographic Adventurer of Year to lead gorge hike

The New York State of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced National Geographic Adventurer of the Year (2012) Jennifer Pharr Davis will return to Niagara Falls on Sunday, April 22, for a hike followed by a talk about her forthcoming book, "The Pursuit of Endurance."
Pharr Davis is a hiker, author and speaker who has covered more than 14,000 miles of long-distance trails on six different continents. She is the author of six books, articles for the New York Times, Outside magazine, Backpacker and Trail Runner, and has been featured in the Washington Post, the New York Times, NPR's "Talk of the Nation" and the "CBS Early Show." Her new book, "The Pursuit of Endurance" (Viking), will release this month.
Pharr Davis is founder and owner of Blue Ridge Hiking Co., a guiding service that strives "to make the wilderness accessible and enjoyable" for hikers of all ages, genders and ability levels. Pharr Davis lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband, Brew, their 5-year-old daughter, Charley, and their 1-year-old son, Gus.
The 2.5-mile hike will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the new Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center, 825 Depot Ave. W., Niagara Falls. It will follow Whirlpool Street to the Great Gorge Railway Trail staircase by the Whirlpool Bridge, enter the gorge and head upriver to the American Falls Gorge Trail to the elevator and up to the top. The hike will return to the museum along the gorge rim trail. The talk and book signing will follow at 4:30 p.m.
