Local station joined nationwide effort to inspire listeners to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Radio station WYRK raised more than $315,391 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during the annual "Country Cares for St. Jude Kids" kick-off. The event shared the hospital's mission through inspirational St. Jude patient families battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
On Feb. 1-2, on-air personalities Clay Moden, Liz Mantel, Dale Mussen, Brett Alan, Wendy Lynn, Rob Banks and Dean Sarago asked listeners to donate to St. Jude to help children like 4-year-old Isaac, who was diagnosed with blood cancer. Today, thanks to St. Jude, Isaac has completed treatment and can look forward to playing on his new swing set in the backyard with all of his friends.
WYRK's second annual "Country Cares For St. Jude Kids" total of $315,391 surpassed last year's total. Brand manager and on-air personality Lynn said, "A very heartfelt 'Thank you' to all who took time to donate; for those who worked the phone bank; donated food for the volunteers; and every person who had a part in this special event. To the WYRK crew: Clay, Dale, Liz, Brett, Dean and Rob ... Thank you for sharing the message of hope for St. Jude kids fighting cancer. I'm so proud of everyone within the WYRK family.
"We broadcast the message, but the community made it a success. Without our donors, we could not accomplish the incredible fete of raising over $600,000 in just two years. The kindness and compassion of residents in this area is overwhelming. We have had donors call in from everywhere, including Pennsylvania, and Southern Ontario, all to help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital continue its mission: Finding cures. Saving children."
