The Buffalo Sabres on Monday announced forward Matt Moulson was placed on waivers at noon for the purpose of assignment.
The team also announced the acquisition of forward Scott Wilson from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Buffalo's fifth round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to being acquired by the Red Wings in a trade on Oct. 21, Wilson (age 25, 5'11", 183 pounds) played in parts of four seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He totaled 26 points (8 goals, 18 assists) in his first full NHL season in 2016-17 and appeared in 20 playoff games with the Penguins in 2017, helping the team to its second consecutive Stanley Cup.
Before joining Pittsburgh full-time for the 2016-17 season, Wilson appeared in 90 regular-season AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. A native of Oakville, Ontario, he has totaled 77 points (41 goals, 36 assists) in his AHL career and led the league in goals at the time of his last recall to Pittsburgh in February 2016.
"We are very happy to add Scott to our roster," Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill said. "Scott is a hard-working, young player that will be a great fit for our club. As a two-time Stanley Cup champion, his experience will be an asset both on and off the ice."
The Buffalo Sabres also announced the team recalled forward Evan Rodrigues from the Rochester Americans (AHL).
Rodrigues (age 24, 5'11", 182 pounds) will join the Sabres for his first recall of the season after appearing in 30 games with the team during his second professional season in 2016-17. The Toronto native has totaled 10 points (5/5) in eight AHL games this season and leads all Rochester skaters with 1.25 points per game.
In a corresponding move, the Sabres assigned forward Kyle Criscuolo to Rochester.
