Imagine the hottest new club in town, filled with people dancing, singing and having a great time.
Now imagine its patrons are teenagers ... and their dates were born before the Nixon presidency.
The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. expected to have 200 high school students on hand Sunday at Antonio's Restaurant, Banquet & Conference Center for its annual "Senior Prom." The teens would be matched with about 200 senior citizens.
The event is an intergenerational gathering that pairs a high school student with a senior citizen "date" for a day of dinner, dancing, music and fun.
This year's luau-themed prom was created to break down barriers between generations and teach students the importance of community while enhancing the lives of seniors.
Participating schools from across Western New York included Canisius High School, Cardinal O'Hara High School, Grand Island High School, Lewiston-Porter High School, Mount St. Mary's Academy, Niagara Catholic High School, Niagara Falls High School and Niagara-Wheatfield High School.
Channel 7 "AM Buffalo"/"The Now" reporter Courtney Corbetta served as the mistress of ceremonies for the event.
The HANCI "Senior Prom" was made possible by the generosity of the following sponsors: Aries Transportation, Complete Senior Care PACE, Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA, John Lagomaggiore Photography, Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, Maid of the Mist Corp., Mediture, Mount St. Mary's Hospital, National Fuel, Niagara's Choice Credit Union, Northwest Bank, Niagara Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Raymond E. Kelley Inc., Sage Management Corp./Dr. Irene Elia, Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, Swiantek, Kling & Pasieka LLP, Syncronet, Town of Niagara/Supervisor Lee Wallace, Unifrax Corp. & Wegmans.
