Turner Classic Movies on Wednesday announced that, after overwhelming response from fans, Buffalo has been named the winner of the "Bring TCM to your Hometown" contest.
The contest, which ran exclusively on TCM Backlot, TCM's first official fanclub, received a record-breaking 125 entries from various cities across the U.S. with Buffalo awarded the top honor. As part of the weekend of activities, TCM will host a free screening of "The Natural," filmed in Buffalo in 1984, at the historic North Park Theatre on Oct. 21.
Director Barry Levinson will join "TCM Primetime" host Ben Mankiewicz for a special introduction and for a meet and greet with fans.
"Bringing TCM to Buffalo offered a remarkable opportunity to connect locals with their love of classic films, as well allowing us to further engage with some of our most passionate and devoted fans," said Genevieve McGillicuddy, vice president of enterprises and strategic partnerships, TCM. "We are always looking for exciting and immersive brand extension opportunities, and TCM Backlot offers just that - giving fans the option to dive deeper into the world of TCM."
Members of TCM's official fan club, TCM Backlot, can reserve their tickets today. Tickets will be available to the public for free on Sept. 8 by visiting https://www.tcmbacklot.com/tickets.
