Tickets still available for 'Treasures Under the Tent'
Tickets are still available for "Treasures Under the Tent," the re-imagined and expanded summer fundraiser to benefit the Niagara History Center. The event runs from 6-9 p.m. this Saturday.
Guests are invited join in on this outdoor dinner and auction. This year, there are new prize items, amped-up menu choices from Lockport's Shamus restaurant, and casual dress for the party.
A party tent will be situated behind the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St., with a view of the Erie Canal and downtown Lockport.
This year's "Treasures" include packages for restaurants, museums and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; cruise packages, including excursions for Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises and the Moondance Cat; golf packages, including Oak Run and Hickory Stick golf courses; sports memorabilia from the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres; packages for local attractions and wineries; decorative and gift items, like a handmade quilt by local artisan Stephanie Drehs, a dollhouse made by Thomas Drehs, original art, and prints by well-known area artists; plus gift baskets and gift cards from area businesses and services.
Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour returns as auctioneer. Music will be provided by the Heenans.
The Niagara History Center is now in its 96th year of preserving and protecting the history of Niagara County and the Erie Canal. Proceeds raised at "Treasures Under the Tent" will help develop and expand the History Center's educational programs for adults and children, offered year-round.
During the hours of the "Treasures" event, guests are welcome to explore the exhibits of art and artifacts in the Penney Gallery, located on the second floor of the Discovery Center. The Penney Gallery gathers inspiration and artifacts from the life of local philanthropist and collector Charles Rand Penney.
Tickets to "Treasures Under the Tent" are $50. Get them at the door or call the History Center at 716-434-7433.
The History Center receives grant assistance from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
