Local Northrop Grumman division's work With US Air Force expands
Congressman Brian Higgins on Wednesday announced Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems was awarded a $10,367,772 contract with the U.S. Air Force through the Department of Defense for the production of additional Joint Threat Emitter systems.
"Local workers are helping to equip our armed forces with state-of-the-art training equipment and, while their work supports our troops, this contract supports the Western New York economy and jobs," Higgins said.
This award amends a previous contract allowing for the production of additional Joint Threat Emitter wideband units for the Air Force. These JTE systems employ cutting-edge technology used by the Air Force to train members of the military to identify and counter enemy missile and artillery threats. JTEs enable aircrews to train in environments that match actual combat situations. These training systems are critical in preparing members of the military to respond to threats.
The production of the additional units in Western New York is expected to be completed by the end of June 2019. Work on the Joint Threat Emitter program supports more than 75 jobs in the region.
