The annual return of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to Artpark is one of Western New York's summer traditions.
Artpark and the BPO have announced a special show, "Broadway Today!," will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, inside the Mainstage Theater. Tickets are on sale at
www.tickets.com,
www.artpark.net, by phone at 1-888-223-6000, and at the Artpark box office, 450 S. Fourth St., Lewiston.
Conducted by Stefan Sanders, the BPO's "Broadway Today!" features vocalists Scott Coulter (winner of five MAC Awards), New York Times favorite Carole Bufford and Jenna Dallacco (New York Theater Musicals Tonight, Fringe Festival), with John Boswell (music director for Judy Collins, Andy Williams, and concert tours of "That's Life: A Toast to Sinatra") on piano and vocals. With these musical stars, this exclusive all-ages BPO stage show will present top musical selections from a diverse list of current and classic Broadway shows, including "Wicked," "Beautiful," "Aladdin," "Jersey Boys," "The Lion King," "Company," "Hair," "Mama Mia," "The Sound of Music," "Mary Poppins," "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Miss Saigon."
The BPO's connection with Artpark dates to the early days of the venue, when the orchestra performed at Artpark's opening night concert in 1974. Four years ago, the BPO reprised that concert for the venue's 40th anniversary.
Over the years, the orchestra has enjoyed a summer residency and performed programs at Artpark ranging from a Grateful Dead tribute event to an ambitious four-year presentation of Wagner's "Ring Cycle."
