Following her spellbinding performance on "Britain's Got Talent" last year, Beau Dermott - the girl with the big voice and big heart - has now signed a major deal with Decca Records to release her debut album, "Brave," on Aug. 25. She may be just 13 years old, but Beau's astonishing voice is already insured for £1 million pounds. It's been insured by Lloyd's of London to ensure her unique voice is protected, especially while she's still at school.
Beau shot to fame when her electrifying audition on "Britain's Got Talent" earned her the golden buzzer from judge Amanda Holden - now Beau's mentor - taking her straight into the live finals. Singing "Defying Gravity" from the hit musical "Wicked," the YouTube clip of her performance currently has an astounding 24 million views. She's even got the backing from Idina Menzel, the original star of "Wicked," who said: "OMG!! Beau Dermott you gave me chills with your performance of 'Defying Gravity.' "
Originally from Liverpool, animal-lover Beau lives with her parents, older brother and two dogs. Alongside recording her new album, Beau is organizing a charity concert in aid of Cancer Research UK, raising money for vital research into all types of cancer, following her father's own diagnosis. It will take place at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool on Oct. 12.
Beau was hand-picked by Dame Vera Lynn to open her 100th birthday celebration concert at the London Palladium earlier this year, in front of the queen. It was here she caught the attention of Decca A&R executives when she performed a stunning rendition of "Glad Rag Doll" - a song that Dame Vera had sung when she herself was a young girl.
Tom Lewis, director of A&R at Decca, said, "Beau's voice is one in a million - and that's why it needs insuring! Having such an incredible talent at such a young age is truly remarkable, and we're looking forward to working with Beau as she develops into a young star."
Beau's love of singing started very early when she saw a DVD of "The Sound of Music." She said, "I watched it on repeat again and again. I just loved the sound of Julie Andrews' voice, and I'd sit on the floor and sing along. And I soon discovered I loved to sing for my own enjoyment."
"Brave" draws from Beau's passion for musical theater and will feature the song that catapulted her to fame, "Defying Gravity," as well as a host of classic favorites. The album includes a touching version of "Reflection" from Disney's "Mulan," a poignant rendition of "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton, and a beautiful take on "When you Wish Upon a Star" from "Pinocchio." The album also includes an original song called "Brave" - inspired by the film of the same name - and "Sparkle" from a Japanese animated film called "Your Name."
Beau is delighted to have recorded her first album: "It's like a dream come true," she said.
Something truly magical happens when 13-year-old Beau stands on stage, and her angelic voice has already captured the hearts of the nation. Pure and strong, this new album sees Beau soar to the highest notes with grace, power and maturity that transcend her years.
