KeyBank will donate more than 3,000 laptop and desktop computers, plus additional office equipment and furnishings, to more than 40 community service organizations in Erie and Niagara counties this spring.
The in-kind gifts to Western New York organizations are valued at nearly $390,000. They are part of a larger package of donations totaling more than 6,700 laptops and desktops, plus other office equipment and furnishings, all valued at about $800,000, which KeyBank is distributing across upstate New York and Ohio.
"KeyBank's purpose is to help clients and communities thrive," said Gary Quenneville, upstate New York regional executive at KeyBank. "One way we accomplish this is by supporting organizations and programs that are focused on helping to close the digital divide and have established records of success in this important work. These computers will make a positive difference in the community."
"This is one of the largest in-kind donations made to our organization, and the equipment KeyBank is providing will go a long way towards our efforts to level the playing field in information technology for high-need populations and those that serve them," Computers For Children Executive Director Christine Carr explained. "These computers will be used by children whose schools and families lack the resources to offer hands-on interaction and education in the latest technologies they will need to succeed in college or career, and we are grateful for KeyBank's generosity."
The majority of the technology being donated became available following KeyBank's 2016 acquisition and integration of First Niagara. KeyBank's technology and operations division, corporate procurement, corporate responsibility and the KeyBank Foundation teams spearheaded the initiative. Team members reached out to community partners to identify needs, as well as inventorying the surplus computers and equipment, wiping data and information from each device and preparing the computers for use by the recipient organizations, their employees and volunteers, and those they serve.
"Our talented team of professionals, while working together to engineer and operate Key's technology infrastructure, dedicated thousands of hours to ensure this donation was successful," said Keith Silvestri, chief technology officer at KeyBank. "They went above and beyond in their support of this project, offering the same level of unparalleled expertise they provide on critical business activities, all for the direct benefit of KeyBank's communities. Just as KeyBank continues to embrace new technologies, it is our hope these donations inspire and engage all who benefit from them."
An important partner for KeyBank in making these donations possible is LaserShip Inc., a leading provider of same-day and next-day delivery services for premier e-commerce and product supply-businesses. LaserShip (www.lasership.com) donated its transportation and logistics services and expertise to help make KeyBank's technology collection and distribution to designated nonprofits possible.
