Braun seeks new term

Sets economic corridor development as agenda
Second Ward Alderwoman Donna Braun stated earlier this week she will seek re-election to North Tonawanda's Common Council, pointing to ongoing economic development efforts as a major part of her planned third-term agenda.
"We have made needed upgrades to our Oliver Street corridor, but work remains, and I hope to continue being an advocate for the development of this historic downtown," Braun stated in a press release by the North Tonawanda Republican Party. "I will continue to work with grassroots groups like Citizens on Patrol, Oliver Street Merchants and Webster Street Merchants to make the Second Ward a better place."
Braun, who is the Common Council's representative on the Lumber City Development Corp's board of directors, was instrumental in bringing much-needed lighting to Oliver Street's Heritage Park. She has represented the neighborhood since 2014.
"I am proud of my accomplishments on the Common Council, but there is much more work to be done and that is why I am running for re-election," Braun said, pointing to the ongoing redevelopment of Webster Street and the city's waterfront as what she termed "victories, but ongoing efforts, as well."
In addition to Heritage Park improvements and new businesses occupying storefronts on Webster Street, Braun noted that the re-opening of the site housing the Dockside Bar & Grill, across from the redeveloped Remington Lofts, was the kind of "bold rethinking" that North Tonawanda's downtown needed.
"We - and I say 'we,' because as an alderwoman, I'm on a team with four other aldermen and our mayor - we have seen this city turn a corner, but there is much to do," Braun said. "We've seen the blueprint, and I hope my neighbors continue to place their confidence in me to be their voice and their advocate in government. Should the Second Ward residents honor me with re-election, I will continue to strive to work tirelessly for my constituents."
As a longtime city resident, Braun has been a constant volunteer with several community groups, including the North Tonawanda Football Hall of Fame, Third Ward Ladies Auxiliary, Gratwick Hose Volunteer firehall and United Way board of directors.
"I am glad to serve my neighbors here in North Tonawanda, a city that has provided me a wonderful home. That was the reason I first ran for North Tonawanda School Board, and then our Common Council," Braun said.
Braun, who lives on Lincoln Avenue with her husband, Ken, will seek the endorsements of the Republican, Independence and Conservative parties on November's ballot.
