Michael Peca & Willie 'Hutch' Jones among 12 Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame inductees

Class of 2017 to be announced at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on June 1

The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame will introduce its 12-member Class of 2017 on Thursday afternoon, June 1, in the ballroom of the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center, 153 Franklin St., Buffalo. Introduction of this year's new members will commence at 4 p.m. with board President Tom Koller presiding. A reception in the ballroom will immediately follow.

2017 GBSHOF inductees:

  • Charles Daniels (deceased), Olympic swimming gold medalist
  • Danny DiLiberto, world champion billiards player and pro boxer
  • Sandra Hollander (D), Buffalo State softball coach
  • Willie "Hutch" Jones, basketball player, Bishop Turner, Vanderbilt & NBA
  • Mike Keiser, world-renowned golf course developer
  • E.J. McGuire (D), NHL hockey administrator, coach
  • Charles O'Brien, Western New York high school volleyball coach and pioneer
  • Danny Ozark (D), Major League Baseball manager
  • Vaughn Parker, football player, St. Joe's Collegiate, UCLA & NFL
  • Michael Peca, Buffalo Sabres hockey player
  • Stacey Schroeder-Watt, shot and discus record holder, NCAA All-American
  • Tom Terhaar, award-winning Olympic rowing coach

This event will mark the 27th class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1991, and brings total membership to 315.

This group will join a rich heritage of native Western New Yorkers, or those who starred in and around the Queen City during their playing days, who are enshrined in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. The 2017 class will officially be inducted this fall on a date and time to be determined at the annual GBSHOF dinner in the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

In addition, the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame board of directors will announce its annual monetary awards from its amateur sports development fund.

The Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame "honors those who have enhanced our lives with their performances and commitment to Western New York sports, an effort surpassed only by the positive impressions they have left on our athletes of tomorrow."
