Restaurants invite diners to write 'Thank you' notes throughout the month of May

A longtime supporter of the U.S. military, T.L. Cannon Companies and its 62 Applebee's restaurants across upstate New York, Connecticut and Northern Pennsylvania announced its partnership with Operation Gratitude - a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that sends care packages overseas - as part of its Military Appreciation Month celebration in May.

T.L. Cannon Companies has pledged its support to the partnership by committing to a seed donation of $2,500 as well as collecting donations from guests interested in supporting the nonprofit organization. In addition to fundraising for Operation Gratitude, the company created special cards for guests to write personal "Thank you" messages between May 1-31, which Operation Gratitude will mail in care packages to deployed service members.

"Recognizing America's servicemen and women has always been at the core of our brand," said Stephanie Griffin, director of marketing and public relations, T.L. Cannon Companies. "Each Veterans Day we provide thousands of complimentary meals and, this year during Military Appreciation Month, we wanted to say 'Thank you' to those who can't come in and visit. This is just a small way show our gratitude for those who sacrifice for our country."

Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude's 80,000 volunteers send, on average, more than 200,000 care packages every year. The organization sends a care package to every currently deployed service member whose name is received; to new recruits upon their graduation from boot camp; to first responders on the frontlines here at home; and to veterans.

"Operation Gratitude's mission is twofold: to lift the morale in the military and first responder communities; and to provide every American an opportunity to say 'Thank you' to all who serve," said Chris Clark, chief development officer, Operation Gratitude. "We're grateful to T.L. Cannon Companies and its 62 Applebee's restaurants for helping us achieve that goal through this thoughtful campaign."

In addition to this partnership, T.L. Cannon Companies' 62 restaurants will be offering a 10 percent discount for veterans and active-duty military personnel throughout the month of May (with proof of military service).
